Job Purpose:

This position is responsible for the accurate recording of Aventiv’s communications & media revenue streams in accordance with ASC 606 and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), Company policy, and documented internal control procedures.  The majority of the Company’s revenue is prepaid and, therefore, requires deferral until the proper conditions have been met to recognize revenues.  Additionally, this position is responsible for the accurate recording of certain direct costs and for the accuracy of various balance sheet accounts.


Essential Duties:

  • Review revenue journals created by SAJE revenue accounting system to ensure data integrity with source database and various billing systems. Investigate and resolve data integrity issues
  • Prepare journal entries to record other revenues, revenue accruals and various direct cost accruals
  • Conduct in-depth revenue analysis versus budget and prior month. Investigate variances
  • Calculate bad debt reserves according to Company policy and analyze bad debt trends
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations and resolve reconciling items on a timely basis
  • Work closely with the Billing Dept and IT to resolve reconciliation differences arising from system processing issues
  • Prepare monthly detailed partner settlement statements timely and accurately in accordance with contract terms
  • Prepare regulatory reporting and payment requests, as assigned
  • Comply with department internal control guidelines; update internal procedures as appropriate
  • Prepare audit support schedules and work with auditors as needed
  • Perform various ad hoc analyses as assigned
  • Assist with special projects related to new product rollouts, system enhancements, implementing efficiencies and company initiatives

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • This position is challenged with a multitude of system issues arising from the various call platforms and billing systems that can often go undetected until they reach the accounting department. The incumbent must be able to work closely with other departments to identify and research these issues in a timely manner and be able to account for the variances caused by processing issues in time to meet the closing schedule. There are schedule constraints that must be met due to department and reporting requirements. Additionally, Securus is constantly rolling out new products which produce new revenue streams that require new procedures, reporting and analysis. The incumbent must be able to review and understand wholesale partner contracts and SOWs, will be involved in developing business requirements and user acceptance testing related to department or Company initiatives, and will make accounting decisions as to the proper resolution of reconciling differences.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, especially related to new revenue recognition (606) guidelines
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Must be results oriented with a focus on meeting department deadlines
  • Good time management skills and flexibility
  • Strong internal control focus
  • Exposure to SOX process documentation and controls environment
  • Intermediate Excel skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks based on department deadlines and company initiatives
  • Proactive in cross training within the Revenue team


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 5-7 years of general ledger accounting and reconciliation experience, including revenue accounting experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA or CPA Candidate ready to sit within the first year
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains
  • Experience with doclink or another document management system
  • Telecommunications experience

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and a variety of office equipment.
  • Occasionally may need to reach, stoop, or kneel.
